- City Bike Rentals: https://veturilo.waw.pl
Veturilo bikes are a great way to explore the city, especially along the Vistula river’s promenade or through the many parks and bike paths. Just download the app, top up (minimum 10 złotys) and go. The first 20 minutes is free, and up to 60 minutes is 1 złoty. Just remember to finish your ride at a Veturilo bike station in the area. For the adventurous, there are even tandem (two-person) bikes at certain bike stations around the city.
Travel to Warsaw
Warsaw is well-connected internationally by air and rail. The city can be easily reached from major European hubs by direct flights and international train services.
Poland is part of the Schengen Area. Participants travelling from outside the Schengen Zone should verify visa requirements well in advance. If you require an official invitation letter for visa purposes, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the conference organizers.

Warsaw is served primarily by Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), located approximately 20–25 minutes from the city centre. The airport is connected to downtown Warsaw by train, bus, and taxi.

Restaurants
As the University of Warsaw is located in the historic centre of Warsaw, participants will find a wide variety of restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and other dining options within a 15-minute walk of the conference venue.
Restaurants: Most restaurants in the city centre have menus in English. It is not expected to tip for drinks or table service, but if you do, around 5-10% would always be welcome. There are great guides on Warsaw’s food scene.
For vegan food, see: https://www.happycow.net/
Milk Bars (Bar Mleczny): Milk bars are a historic Polish staple, offering traditional (and delicious) Polish classics to students and locals in informal, cafeteria-style settings. You can choose from set menus or order à la carte. These can be busy places at lunch time, especially near the university and may close early. Many Milk Bars are cash only. A few to try: Bar Mleczny Mleczarnia Świętokrzyska📍, Familijny 📍, Milk Bar Warsaw 📍

Stores, Shops, Pharmacies
- Local essentials: There are several shops in the area if you are looking to buy simple items. Żabka and Carrefour Market have basic items, such as drinks, snacks, wine/beer, etc. but can be a bit more expensive for their convenient location. Also, Społem on Krakowski Przedmieście. Please note: in Poland a 50 grosze deposit is added to plastic bottles. All prices in shops are with tax already added.
- Grocery stores: Lidl, Biedronka, Carrefour are larger stores where you can find a range of products, including foods that cater for a range of dietary requirements. Near the University, Biedronka can be found (-1 level) at the intersection of Krakowskie Przedmieście (Nowy Świat) and Świętokrzyska. Lidl is also nearby on Tamka street, very close to the Museum and National Institute of Frederick Chopin. Please note, all shops will be closed on Sundays, but many smaller convenience stores will be open in the central area, as well as restaurants.
- Toiletries and other personal items: Rossmann or Hebe are go-to shops in Poland for any personal items you may need. Rossmann is on the corner of Krakowskie Przedmieście (Nowy Świat) and Świętokrzyska near McDonald’s.
- Pharmacy, Chemist (Apteka): There are many pharmacies in the city centre, just look for the green cross signs, including Gemini, Ziko, Dr. Max. Near to the University you can find Ziko Apteka on Świętokrzyska. Please note that many items are only available in pharmacies (such as some non-prescription or over-the-counter medicines, or items for children). Most pharmacies will be closed on Sunday, but there is always one pharmacy open in the area (called dyżury) on Sundays and overnight. This information will be displayed outside if a shop is closed.
